The NSW Liberals are expected to face a fight in the once-safe seat of North Shore, with Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan declaring she will contest the seat as an independent at the March state election.
It's the not the first time Ms Corrigan will face sitting Liberal MP Felicity Wilson. They went head to head in the April 2017 by-election, where Ms Wilson won by just over 3,000 votes.
The seat was formerly held by Jillian Skinner and was one of the party's safest seats, with a margin of 21 per cent.
But after the by-election, it is now technically a marginal seat at 4.7 per cent.
Ms Corrigan said she decided to run after members of the community asked her to and claimed they were still unhappy with Ms Wilson's false claims she lived in the electorate for 10 years.
"A number of senior Liberals have been in touch urging me to run," Ms Corrigan sai
"Integrity is the most important thing a politician can have. I am a trusted person in the area, they know that I don't play politics, I look at every issue on its merit."
Ms Wilson narrowly won pre-selection for the seat late last year against Tim James.
Mr James challenged that decision in the Supreme Court this week but lost.
Ms Corrigan said in the past two years, there had been irreversible damage to the Liberal brand at a federal level.
"The party has really been affected by the behaviour, bullying and lack of leadership," she said.
