Independent Edinburgh cafe says it is 'so sad' to see locals 'queuing for Costa'

As lockdown restrictions begin to ease across Scotland, one Edinburgh cafe is reminding people to shop local as businesses begin to reopen.

French crêperie Le Petit Café on Morrison Street reached out to locals via a post on Instagram to urge them "not to forget that the smallest businesses put twice as much heart into their work" than 'huge fast food companies.'

The cafe shared images of people queuing outside of a nearby Costa along with a slide showing the difference in their prices to Le Petit Café's, with a large latte at the high street chain coming in at £3.20 and the independent eatery's costing just £2 in comparison.

"We continue to see people queuing for a more expensive and lower quality drink in the huge fast food companies," the team at the cafe near Lothian Road wrote.

"It’s just so sad.

"Don’t forget that the smallest businesses put twice as much heart in their daily tasks to give you the best possible experience.

"Go get a Starbucks from time to time, but being curious and going to test the neighbour next door is not bad too."

Several Edinburgh locals took to the post to voice their support, with one writing "Very well said, we'll be down for a coffee soon."

Another added: "I promise to try your coffees and crepes next time I'm in Edinburgh."

Edinburgh's cafes and restaurants will reopen for indoor hospitality until 8pm from April 26 under Scotland's national lockdown easing.
