Independent café chain Damascena to open fifth Birmingham venue

Independent café chain Damascena has struck a deal to open its fifth venue in Birmingham.

The company, which specialises in Middle Eastern coffee, meals and cakes, will launch the site in office block Lyndon House, Edgbaston, early next year and it will also become its new headquarters and house a barista school.

Damascena has agreed a ten-year lease on a 2,570 sq ft unit which has space for 41 seats indoors in addition to a 29-capacity outdoor garden terrace.

The new café in Hagley Road will join the group's quartet of other venues in Moseley, Jewellery Quarter, Harborne and the city centre business district.

Managing director Anas Zein Al-Abdeen said: "We're very excited to open our fifth branch of Damascena and we hope our presence at Lyndon House will complement the already popular area.

"This is a bold and ambitious new project, particularly with the uncertainty that the covid pandemic has caused."

Simon Dicken, senior director at the building's landlord SevenCapital, added: "This is a fantastic addition to Lyndon House and the surrounding area within Edgbaston.

"It will add a very popular amenity to the development itself but more so it will provide a further dynamic to the growing café culture within Edgbaston Village.

"Being located adjacent to the new West Midlands Metro stop means it will also be directly accessible from the city centre, opening up opportunities for significant custom."

The project has been designed by Faber Designs and the property agency on the deal was Knight Frank.
