Independent book stores join forces in new online store to compete with Amazon

A new, 'ethical' way to get your hands on the latest book titles has launched this week in the UK.

Bookshop - the website "with a mission" - aims to challenge Amazon 's current market monopoly while simultaneously supporting local, independent bookstores up and down the country.

After a successful initial launch in America, the site is now looking to tackle the UK market.

As you can see from the website's Store Locator, hundreds of book shops from around the United Kingdom have already signed up. Book shops they describe as "an integral part of our culture and communities".

Even prior to the unprecedented events of this year, book shops have struggled with the growing, all-encompassing power of online shopping. Many previous campaigns have tried and failed in their attempts to preserve what was once a high street staple.

Customers who wish to support a specific bookstore can select it from the Store Locator listed above. By doing so, all profits go directly to them.

To support the cause overall, you can head to https://uk.bookshop.org/ and make your purchase in the knowledge that 75% of the profits will go to "stores, publications, authors and others who make up the thriving, inspirational culture around books.".

More answers on things such as their return policy and advertising can be found in their FAQ section where information is also available on how Bookshop can create a free and simple storefront for individuals who wish to sell their own books online today.
