Independence campaigner charged after "England out of Scotland" Edinburgh Airport stunt

A man has been charged after he allegedly held a banner reading "England Get Out Of Scotland" at Edinburgh Airport in August.

Sean Clerkin, 59, was arrested at 7:30am on Friday morning before he was questioned by Police Scotland.

Cops said he was charged the well-known independence campaigner with displaying an offensive banner breaking an airport bylaw, displaying a banner without permission.

Clerkin, of Barrhead, East Renfrewshire, was released following charge, and report will be made to the Procurator Fiscal.

It was reported by the Daily Record that he will deny the charges.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "A 59-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an incident at Edinburgh Airport on Thursday, 20 August, 2020.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
