Independence activist charged over alleged 'England Get Out of Scotland' banner at Edinburgh airport

An independence activist has been arrested and charged for allegedly unveiling a banner reading 'England Get Out of Scotland' at Edinburgh Airport.

Sean Clerkin, 59, was arrested by cops at 7.30am at his home this morning, after an incident at Scotland's largest airport on August 20.

Clerkin was charged with displaying an offensive banner saying "ENGLAND GET OUT OF SCOTLAND', and breaking an Edinburgh Airport bylaw, displaying a banner without permission.

He was arrested and taken from his home in East Renfrewshire, to Helen Street Police Station in Glasgow to be interviewed, and was later charged.

The Action for Scotland activist has since been released and will deny the charges.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "A 59-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an incident at Edinburgh Airport on Thursday, 20 August, 2020.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
