IND vs WI: Virat Kohli breaks Virender Sehwag's Test record

NEW DELHI: Star Indian batsman Virat Kohli on Thursday achieved yet another remarkable feat by surpassing Virender Sehwag's record to become the fifth Indian cricketer with the highest run tally in Test cricket.

This milestone was accomplished during the second Test match against the West Indies at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad.

Requiring just 32 runs to overtake Sehwag's impressive total of 8586 runs, Virat not only leapfrogged him but also left behind the former Australian swashbuckling batsman Matthew Hayden, who scored 8625 runs in Test cricket.

At the end of the opening day's play in Trinidad, Virat was unbeaten on 87 runs, cementing his position as the fifth-highest run-scorer for India in Test cricket.

He has scored 8642 runs in 111 Tests, with an average of 49.38 and a staggering 28 centuries under his belt.

Topping the list of Indian batsmen with the most Test runs is the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. The batting maestro scored 15,921 runs in 200 Test matches at an average of 53.78.

Rahul Dravid, with 13288 runs in 164 Tests, securing the second position in the tally.
