IND vs AUS: Cheteshwar Pujara on the verge of joining Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid in elite club

NEW DELHI: Cheteshwar Pujara sealed the deal for India in style, chipping spinner Todd Murphy over deep mid-wicket for a boundary to help India retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Pujara, who was playing his 100th Test match, helped India beat Australia by 6 wickets in the Delhi Test and take a 2-0 lead in the four-match series.

Pujara, who scored 31 runs in Delhi Test, is set to join an elite club that has three India batting legends - Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and Rahul Dravid.

He needs 69 runs to complete 2000 runs in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

If he manages to score 69 runs in the third Test, to be played at Indore's Holkar Stadium, the right-hander will enter the 2000-run club in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He will become the fourth cricketer - after Sachin, VVS, and Dravid - to score 2000 and more runs in Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Pujara has 1931 runs in 22 Tests in the Border Gavaskar Trophy at an average of 52.18, including 5 centuries and 10 fifties.

India's batting legend Tendulkar is on top of the tally with 3262 runs in 34 Tests at an average of 56.24, including 9 centuries and 16 fifties.

VVS Laxman (2434 runs in 29 Tests) and Rahul Dravid (2143 runs in 32 Tests) are the other two cricketers who have scored 2000 and more runs in Border Gavaskar Trophy.
