‘Incredibly eerie’ moment sky turns blood red as Cyclone Narelle makes landfall in Australia

The skies above Western Australia turned a blood red colour as a powerful cyclone made landfall in apocalyptic-like scenes.

Footage shared by Shark Bay Caravan Park shows the “incredibly eerie” hue covering the grounds. “It’s an inside day for us that’s for sure,” the park joked.

Tropical Cyclone Narrelle travelled into WA on Friday (27 March), with high winds and the area’s rust-red, iron-rich soils creating the deep-red spectacle. The event lasted for several hours, according to locals.

The cyclone has made history by becoming the first storm system in over 20 years to make landfall in three of Australia’s states and territories.
