'Incredibles 2' passes $1B at global box office, just seventh animated movie to hit the mark

"Incredibles 2" remains, well, incredible.

The Disney-Pixar sequel passed the $1 billion mark at the global box office Monday after bringing in $574 million in the U.S.

"Incredibles 2" is just the seventh animated movie, and 36th film ever, to bring in $1 billion, joining "Frozen," "Minions," "Toy Story 3," "Finding Dory," "Despicable Me 3" and "Zootopia." It's also the quickest to do so, taking just seven weekends.

The superhero flick is already the fourth movie this year to cross the plateau, along with "Black Panther," "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom."

The lofty results were likely from the movie's opening weekend, when it broke box office records for the best animated film opening ever with a $180 million weekend.

The original "Incredibles" brought in $633 million in 2004.
