Incredible video from inside Fastnet Lighthouse in Cork shows powerful impact of Storm Barra

Storm Barra has made landfall in Ireland and has been battering the Cork coastline since the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The weather event has caused flooding and fallen trees across the country, with Cork among the worst areas affected.

Footage gathered by Ronnie O'Driscoll and his crew at West Cork's famous Fastnet Lighthouse has shown just how fierce Storm Barra is, CorkBeo report.

Cape Clear Ferry Co. noted that wind speeds at the lighthouse reached astronomical numbers this morning.

"Wind speed reached 74 kts (Force 12) with gusts up to 87 kts (Hurricane)," they said.

Not exactly conditions many people would fancy being out in the middle of!

In a post to their Facebook page, Cape Clear Ferry said: "The video was taken by Ronnie O'Driscoll and his colleagues, who were working out on the lighthouse when the storm hit.

"It certainly gives greater appreciation and admiration not only for how solid the design and construction of the tower is, but also for the mental agility of the former Lighthouse keepers who stayed out on the rock for many weeks at a time and faced many a storm, and without phones or broadband I hasten to add!

"Wonderfully unique too, to see the lighthouse from a different perspective!"
