Incredible video catches moment waterfall is blown backwards by powerful winds on Skye

It's safe to say that the weather in Scotland can sometimes get a little intense.

However, amateur photographer Thomas Lamont, 32, wasn't quite expecting to come across such a powerful reminder on a recent trip to the Isle of Skye.

The Falkirk based snapper, who runs the Kilted Photographer, was stunned to see the Mealt Falls at Kilt Rock and being blown backwards by the intense winds of up to 50mph.

Thomas said: "We had planned to visit different areas of Skye that day but the adverse weather made us change our plans.

"Originally we were going to visit Kilt Rock later in the holiday, but we knew the car park was right next to it so decided to go for it."

Thomas was stunned to see the water being blown back up the sea cliff waterfall and bracing himself decided to get out to catch a video of it.

He joked: "I got caught in some of the blow back from the waterfall and was drenched within seconds."

Deciding that a few photgraphs weren't really capturing the raw power of mother nature, he decided to take a video, adding: "As you can see from the video the sheer force of the wind knocked my balance slightly.

"You can't hear it within the video but the wind was catching the metal barrier which created quite an ominous whistling noise which added to the whole experience."

Thomas has been a keen photographer for a number of years and runs The Kilted Photographer blog, where he posts and sells prints of the stunning snaps he takes of his travels around Scotland.

He added: "I’ve been surprised at how quickly my social media channels have grown during this time and how far reaching and well received my photographs have been.

He explained that sights like the one captured at the waterfall, along with the variety, history and beauty, that makes Scotland so interesting, he said: "Scotland is majestic and I feel that living in the central belt, you tend to forget that wilderness is not far from the doorstep.

"I love to showcase Scotland in its beauty on my social media pages to people from across the world.

"I like to research the history behind some of the areas I visit and add these snippets of information to my posts.

"There’s so many more places to visit and I look forward to sharing these in the near future."

Sharing the post on a local Facebook group, with hundreds of people liking and commenting on the clip.

One user joked that he wouldn't have been wearing his kilt that day then, while another added that they guessed he didn't manage to get any drone footage.
