The MLS season kicked off Saturday across the country, and the Portland Timbers and Colorado Rapids battled frigid temperatures and a wild snowstorm during their season-opener.
With temperatures in the teens at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, the game began with a perfectly clear field – but snow would quickly blanket the pitch through the first half.

By halftime, there was significant accumulation on the field.

The game had to be stopped temporarily in the second half for grounds crew to clear the lines with shovels – but the shoveled areas quickly filled in.
