Incredible scenes at Stamford Bridge as thousands of Chelsea fans celebrate Champions League win

Chelsea are Champions of Europe for a second time after beating Manchester City 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League final at the Estadio do Dragao in Porto last night.

Kai Havertz, a summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen less than 12 months ago, picked the perfect moment to score his very first goal in the competition, netting the only goal of the game just a few minutes before the half time interval.

The Germany international latched onto Mason Mount's excellent through ball, took a touch to knock it past the outrushing Ederson in the City goal and knock it into an empty net, sparking wild scenes both inside the stadium and back home in west London.

The scenes were even greater at the end of the contest, as Chelsea did enough to see the game through and lay their hands on the most coveted prize in club football.

After captain Cesar Azpilicueta lifted the trophy aloft and the Chelsea players took it on a tour of the pitch, celebrating with the fans that had made the trip to Portugal, thousands back home, who weren't so fortunate to get a ticket for the reduced capacity event, celebrated, gathering outside Stamford Bridge.

Thousands gathered outside the ground, filming, waving scarves, cheering, jeering and celebrating a famous, memorable victory. Blue flares were also let off, as supporters celebrated late into the night.

People also sat on the edge of roofs and leaned out of their windows to join in with the celebrations, on what was a historic night for the football club.

Back in Portugal, head coach Thomas Tuchel, who has secured his first piece of silverware as Chelsea boss at the second attempt, tried to sum up his emotions.

The German said: "A huge experience, a huge success.

"Of course we all will profit from that experience together. We will us it to stay hungry, grow and evolve from that. It is a huge step to arrive in the final, even bigger one to fight your way through and make it to the cup, a fantastic achievement and congratulations to everybody.

"We knew that we needed a top level performance and we needed a strong bond today to overcome this match and to have a chance to win this match.

"This is what we did, and I'm almost speechless, very, very happy to share this moment with this team, staff and support everyday in Cobham.

It's for them, for our team manager who is at home, it's for my parents, my family and my kids."
