Incredible scenes as Red Arrows fly above homes across Greater Manchester

This was the moment the iconic Red Arrows jetted across Greater Manchester - leaving people below filled with awe and wonder.

The colourful jets took to the skies as part of a fly past at Astley Hall, in Chorley, Lancashire, where the G7 Speakers Conference is taking place.

Having flown over Chorley at 1pm, the Red Arrows flew over parts of Greater Manchester on their way towards Yorkshire by 1.05pm.

They could be seen in the skies above Bury, Heywood and Rochdale, stunning residents on the ground below.

The bright red jets left a colourful trail in their path, while the sound of the engines soaring above surrounded the towns below.

Commenting on the Manchester Evening News ' Facebook page, Vicki Griffiths said: "Flew over our heads whilst in the garden in Affetside! Was too quick for a photo/video but was amazing."

Melissa Wilde wrote: "Amazing to watch from our garden."

The Red Arrows formed in late 1964 as an all-Royal Air Force team, replacing a number of unofficial teams that had been sponsored by RAF commands.

The fly past began and ended at RAF Scampton, in Lincolnshire, and covered Cheshire, North Wales and Lancashire before reaching Greater Manchester, taking less than 50 minutes in total.

The G7 Speakers Conference was hosted by Sir Lindsay Hoyle, MP for Chorley and speaker of the House of Commons.

Guests included Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.
