Incredible photo captures fork lightning as thunderstorm rolls over Springburn

Thunderstorms have been rumbling over Glasgow today - and one Glasgow Live reader has captured an incredible shot of fork lightning over Springburn.

The image, by Scott Watson, was taken on Wednesday (July 31) evening while a Met Office warning for thunder remains in place.

As reported on Glasgow Live, lightning has struck the city several times today , with the Lightning Tracker App showing hotspots in Giffnock around 2.53pm, and again in Bilsland Drive, Ruchill at 3.56pm.

But we haven’t seen anything quite like Scott’s shot over in Springburn - proof that the Met Office got it right this time!

(Scott Watson)

He told Glasgow Live : “Took this at the bottom of Springburn Road about 10 minutes ago. It’s wild in Glasgow!”

Never a truer word spoken …

The weather warning remains in place until 11.59pm tonight - so there could be more chances to spot lightning across those dark and ominous skies.

Unsettled weather conditions look set to continue into Thursday, with thundery showers expected in the afternoon at around 4pm, easing up or turning to heavy rain by Friday.
