Incredible moment F3 driver survives horror crash after hitting kerb and spinning through air at Italian Grand Prix

A Formula 3 driver has walked away unhurt from a shocking crash during a race at the Italian Grand Prix.

Australian teenager Alex Peroni was running sixth in the F3 race at Monza when he crashed into a sausage kerb placed on the edge of the fast Parobolica corner of the track.

Footage of the incident shows the car launching into the air and spinning multiple times before landing on its roof on the catch fencing. It is unknown how fast he was going at the time.

Peroni, 19, remarkably walked away unscathed but was sent to hospital for precautionary checks, Formula 1 said on its website.

The incident comes exactly one week after the 160mph crash that killed Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert.

FIA Formula 3 tweeted a video of Peroni getting into a medical car looking shaken.

“We are all extremely relieved that Alex Peroni walked away from this crash during Race 1 in Monza,” they wrote.

“He is currently under medical observation.”

The rounded kerb was installed to prevent drivers from exceeding track limits but its placement led to the dangerous incident.

It was removed immediately after the F3 race.

The third and final practice session for this weekend's Formula One race was delayed while the crash barrier was repaired and the kerb was removed.

Drivers have since been reminded not to exceed track limits at the turn, with those that do having their lap times deleted.

Peroni is in his first season of the Formula 3 championship.
