Incredible Man City v Tottenham game breaks Champions League record

Manchester City and Tottenham traded blows in the form of five goals in the early stages of their Champions League quarter-final second leg at the Etihad Stadium.

After Spurs edged a cagey first leg 1-0 last week, it was a completely different story as the Premier League clubs went all-out for the chance to play Ajax in the semi-finals.

Fans could not quite believe what they were seeing as Raheem Sterling's early opener was cancelled out by a quick-fire Heung-min Son double only for Bernardo Silva to equalise in the 11th minute.

And the first-half goal-fest was not over there as Sterling tapped in a third City goal in the 21st minute to level the tie at 3-3 on aggregate.

The early flurry of goals ensured the game made history - with the opening 11 minutes the fastest four goals have ever been scored in a Champions League match.

Why Man City fans boo the Champions League theme tune before matches

The hectic opening created more history, with Raheem Sterling's opener City's quickest ever Champions League goal.

After a remarkable opening 21 minutes, the game finally settled down before the break, setting up a huge second half with Spurs looking set to progress on away goals.

City were dumped out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage at the hands of Liverpool last year but remain desperate to add European glory to their collection of trophies.
