Incredible image of pod of orcas swimming through a rainbow off Shetland

A pod of orcas were snapped swimming through a rainbow off Shetland.

The four killer whales were caught in drone photos around 12.30pm on Saturday. Dad-of-three Gary Buchan, 52, spotted them off the island of Unst.

He couldn't work out what was obscuring the lens of his camera and later realised it was a rainbow.

Gary, who works as an aquaculture technician, said: "We took the opportunity to go to the island and see if they were there.

"They were first there at 12.30pm and they were still there at 8.30pm. There were four in the pod, I've no idea how old they were.

"There was one bull, two females and an older calf. I have seen orcas hundreds of times, but not this pod.

"Orcas are here nearly all year round.

"I thought there was something wrong with my phone, then I realised it was a rainbow.

"The drone was about 15m above the orcas.

"When I looked at the photos it appeared there was a rainbow."
