Incredible footage shows Marian Finucane being interviewed as a student in 1970

These incredible photos show a 19-year-old Marian Finucane being interviewed way back in 1970.

The iconic RTE broadcaster, who passed away today, was previously an architectural student.

In the clip of which these photos are from, she is interviewed by reporter Patrick Gallagher during a student occupation of 45 Saint Stephen’s Green, where they were carrying out work to restore the partially demolished building.

Marian talks about how she feels it was her responsibility as an architectural student and native Dubliner to help protect the buildings.

Tributes have been flooding in for the veteran broadcaster, who died suddenly today aged 69.

Marian had worked with RTE since 1976, going on to become the first presenter of Liveline.

More recently she presented The Marian Finucane Show at weekend lunchtimes.

Paying tribute, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said: "I am stunned and deeply saddened to hear of the death of Marian Finucane.

"She was a true broadcasting legend who reshaped current affairs radio.

"Ireland will miss her voice. Weekend mornings will never be quite the same again."

Dee Forbes, Director General of RTÉ, said: “We learned today of the sudden passing of Marian Finucane with profound shock and sadness.

"Marian was a broadcaster of immense capability; a household name, she was first and foremost a tenacious journalist with a zeal for breaking new ground.

"From Women Today to Liveline to her weekday radio show on Radio 1 and, latterly, her enormously popular Saturday and Sunday radio programme, she tackled the big social issues of the day with command and insight.

"Multi-skilled, she forged a distinguished career on television, as well as undertaking significant charity work in Africa.

"Ireland has lost a unique voice. RTÉ has lost a beloved colleague. My sincere and heartfelt sympathies to her husband John and son Jack.”
