Incredible footage shows herd of deer 'out for a morning swim' near North Uist

An incredible clip posted on Twitter has shown a herd of deer swimming near North Uist.

Twitter user Alex MacInnes posted the video on the social media site after it was taken by his brother who was out fishing for shellfish.

The Scot explained that this is a regular occurrence and his brother helped to ensure their passage back on to dry land.

Filmed to a soundtrack of Runrig, it shows a stag and nine hinds swimming not far from his brother's boat.

It's likely the stag was looking for for fresh grazing land away from rivals.

Responding to the post, one person added that her partner, who is an ex-shellfish fisherman stated that stags and hinds used to do this regularly from Skye to Soay.

When asked if the animals made it, Alex responded: "They always do, these animals are the animal Olympians of the Highlands and Islands."

One person added: "How lucky you are to encounter this magnificent view."

while another user joked: "Can't help but wonder if Santa and his sleigh are submarined in tow behind them."
