Incredible estimate of how many tickets could have been sold for Liverpool vs Tottenham in Champions League final

The demand for Liverpool's Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur is so great the Estadio Metropolitano could have been filled almost THREE times over.

Tickets have long been sold out for the showpiece occasion, which takes place in Madrid on Saturday evening.

Liverpool and Tottenham were both given an allocation of 16,613, with the majority of Reds supporters entering a ballot which gave them a one in 4.1 chance of success in gaining a ticket.

The Estadio Metroplitano has a capacity of almost 68,000, which has been reduced to around 64,000 final.

And it is understood a realistic estimate for the amount of tickets that could have been sold is 160,000.

It's in contrast to Wednesday's Europa League final, where Arsenal, Chelsea and some sponsors returned tickets due to problems attending the match in the Azerbaijan capital Baku.

Authorities expect around 40,000 Liverpool and Tottenham fans to travel despite not having a ticket for the match.

And there has been significant interest from local supporters in Madrid.

Friday is expected to break the record for the number of flights using British airspace, while Madrid Airport will be the busiest in Europe for the day.
