Incredible drone footage shows destruction to Wakefield bakery as demolition confirmed after blaze

A large Wakefield bakery will have to be demolished after it was gutted by a fierce blaze.

Around 140 firefighters were called to the Speedibake factory, near Westgate Retail Park, after the fire broke out at around 1.30pm on Saturday, February 2.

Flames and massive plumes of smoke filled the air as crews from across West Yorkshire used large jets, hose reels and aerial ladder platforms to tackle the fire, which tore through the ground floor of the building.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) say some firefighters remain on the scene and they are trying to figure out what caused the fire.

In a statement, WYFRS said: "Demolition of the site will begin today and continue over the coming days. You may notice an increase of smoke and dust in the area.

"Thornes Park Stadium will remain open as a reception centre for anyone affected by the Fire."

They added: "It has been confirmed that no asbestos was present in the section of the building involved in fire, therefore there is no asbestos present in the smoke plume."

The fire service have not reported any injuries.
