'Increasingly dangerous' car parking situation reported at beauty spot

As lockdown measures have gradually been eased across England, some people have taken advantage of driving to beauty spots across the south west.

Chew Valley Lake in Somerset has always been popular with people looking to escape to the countryside and now some lockdown restrictions have been lifted this has proved no different.

However, locals to the area have expressed concern that people are parking anywhere they see fit after Bristol Water confirmed the car park at Chew Valley Lake was closed.

Jake Rogers told Bristol Live: "The situation is becoming increasingly dangerous on Chew Valley Lake.

"Bristol Water has made it clear that their car parks are closed, however there is a clear lack of care and consideration by those choosing to visit the lake who are not able to walk there themselves.

"I feel it is only fair to highlight the situation which is occurring at the lake where responsible adults are putting lives at risk."

Similar concerns have been expressed by other people who live local to the area.

A local resident in the area who wanted to stay anonymous said: "Dangerous, the locals are going mental. It is disgraceful.

"I’m a local but it’s out of order it’s locked for a reason someone will get killed or there will be a bad accident.

"It’s locked for a reason not to park on a busy and fast road."

Chew Valley Lake is not the only area where an increased number of people have been visiting. Earlier this week fears were expressed that towns like Weston-super-Mare would be overwhelmed by daytrippers.
