Increasing concern for 59-year-old father Michael Young who went missing in Washington

There is increasing concern for a missing Washington dad who has not been seen for more than 24 hours.

Michael Young, 59, was reported missing by his family on Thursday afternoon after he was last seen in the area near St Robert’s School.

The father was last spoken to by his family at about 2.30pm but has not been seen since.

Enquiries to locate him are ongoing and both police officers and his family are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.

It is believed Michael has been travelling in his grey Vauxhall Corsa, with a registration plate beginning DP68.

He is described as white, around 5t6in tall, of slim build and with short, greying hair. He was last seen wearing dark jeans and a dark blue Fred Perry polo top.

Detective Superintendent Mick Paterson, of Northumbria Police, is leading the search and has said Michael is being treated as a “high risk missing person”.

He said: “We are very concerned for Michael’s welfare and are now releasing his picture so the public can assist in our search.

“He has been missing for almost 24 hours and we are now treating him as a high risk missing person.

“We are asking the public to keep their eye out for Michael but in particular for the grey Vauxhall Corsa he is believed to be driving.

“He is from Washington and is believed to have travelled around the Sunderland area, however, he could have travelled further afield.

“If Michael sees this appeal then we would urge you to get in touch. Your family are worried and we want to bring you home safely.”

Anyone who believes they could assist police is asked to call officers on 101 quoting log 605 of September 10 or report online at the Northumbria Police website.
