Increased police presence in Mapperley as police warn public not to approach man following assault

More police will be in Mapperley tonight as police continue to search for a man in connection with a serious assault that left two people badly hurt.

On Wednesday officers were called to Pilkington Road following a reported attack.

A man remains in critical condition in hospital but the woman's condition is now stable and police say her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Last night (August 6) police launched an appeal to find a man called Joseph Chattaway in connection with the incident.

He has still not been found and extra police remain in the area this evening (August 7).

Neighbourhood Inspector Chris Pearson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “I understand resident’s concerns as this was a shocking incident and as such, we have made sure that officers have been in the area both for reassurance and to address any worries the community may have.

“There will be officers patrolling the area this evening and I would urge anyone in the area with any concerns to speak with them or call Nottinghamshire Police on 101.

The incident was an isolated one with all parties involved known to each other and detectives are working around the clock to establish the circumstances.”

Detective Inspector Parminder Dhillon is leading the investigation into the assault. He said: "We are keen to speak to Joseph Chattaway in connection with the incident yesterday.

"We believe that he has information that could help us with our enquiries.

"We are urging any members of the public that might see Chattaway to not approach him, but to ring 999 immediately."

If you have any information on the incident, please contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 330 of 5 August 2020.
