Police in the Old Trafford area of the city have upper their presence following a number of reports of serious violent crime in the area.
Yesterday afternoon Section 60 stop and search powers were introduced covering a part of the Trafford area in response to recent knife crime related incidents during the week, including the stabbing and robbery of a 15-year-old boy in Old Trafford.
Under Section 60, officers can stop search anyone in a defined area within a specific timeframe. The Section 60 order is currently in place until 4am this morning but this can often be extended if the police deem it necessary.
Shortly after 1am this morning (Monday, November 28) Stretford Police confirmed that further reports of serious violent crime had been made and as a result officers had been deployed to Trafford Bar Metrolink and also set up a vehicle checkpoint on Seymour Grove.

The local policing unit covering Stretford and Old Trafford tweeted: "Following further reports of serious violent crime, #XMTransportUnit officers deployed to Trafford Bar Metrolink and also set up a vehicle checkpoint on Seymour Grove, where s60 powers have been put in place for the evening by Trafford Div. Keep our streets knife-free! #NoToKnives "
