Increase in deaths of coronavirus patients in Nottingham's hospitals

More patients in Nottingham's hospitals have died after testing positive for Covid-19.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust which runs the QMC and City Hospital, confirmed a further four people had died bringing the death toll to 117 in the city.

Dr Keith Girling, Medical Director at Nottingham University Hospitals said: “Sadly we can confirm that a further four patients have died having tested positive for Covid-19.  Regrettably that means that 117 Covid-19 positive patients we were caring for have sadly died since the beginning of March.

“The patients were aged [between] 56 and 82, and died on the 13 and 14 of April.

“The families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”

It comes as the total number of deaths across Sherwood Forest Hospitals increased to 64.

The deaths, of patients who were being treated for the virus across King's Mill, Newark and Mansfield Community Hospitals, were registered between Sunday, April 12 and Tuesday, April 14.

Office for National Statistics data suggests there are more deaths locally than the official hospital figures.

So far, only the number of deaths in hospital has been published for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, while the death toll in care homes, hospices, at home and in other communal establishments is yet to be published for each local authority.
