Inclusive Mini World Cup for kids set to kick off in Ballycullen Park, Co Dublin this weekend

Dublin is gearing up for a World Cup with a difference this weekend.

And the goal is to bring the joy of sport to mainstream and special needs kids between the ages of nine and 15.

The Inclusive Mini World Cup in Ballycullen Park this Saturday, is the brainchild of Knocklyon United Director of Football, Mick Kennedy, who has teamed up with Mary Larkin, Head Coach with Knocklions Special Olympics Club.

Mary told the Irish Mirror: "The aim of the event is to promote sport for all, inclusion and diversity through football.

"It's a fun way for players to participate in team events and will be a family day for all involved.

"We will also have have clowns, face painters and a sensory room for players on the autistic spectrum should they need some time out.

"The equipment for the sensory room has been loaned to us by Sinead Tighe of Daniel's Voyage."

A huge effort has gone into the event by Knocklyon United coaches and management, as well as Special Olympics volunteers.

On the field, mixed teams of mainstream and special needs players aged between nine and 15 will go head to head.
