Incident at bank in Kirkintilloch sees residents evacuated and cops lock down street

Cops have locked down a Scots street and cordoned off the area amid an early morning incident at a bank in Kirkintilloch.

Residents were evacuated from their homes and officers currently remain on the scene at Santander in Cowgate.

The Cowgate, between West High Street and Catherine Street, has been closed by officers.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident have yet to be confirmed.

One resident said moments before neighbours were evacuated someone had 'tried to use a gas canister to break into the bank in a failed attempted robbery'.
