Lanes for inbound traffic on Vibhavadi Rangsit, one of the country's busiest roads, will be closed outside Don Mueang airport for four days from Friday between 10pm and 4am to clear the way the expansion of a pedestrian footbridge in front of the airport, according to the Highways Department.
The footbridge has to be closed and expanded as a ramp connecting the outbound lane of Vibhavadi Rangsit Road with the airport is being replaced.
The old ramp has already been dismantled. The replacement will be positioned away from the road so as not to hinder the flow of traffic, the department's public relations division said.
Construction of the new ramp requires the footbridge be expanded, which means vehicular traffic in the vicinity has to be manged differently.
From Friday to Monday, the inbound traffic will be diverted to the outbound lanes, while outbound traffic will use a local road that runs parallel and passes Wat Don Muang.
A temporary footbridge near Wat Don Muang will also be closed until the end of the month. The original structure will be torn down and a new one built in its place.
The department has advised pedestrians to use another footbridge nearby that connects Amari Hotel to the airport, adding that a widened version of Vibhavadi Road should be open at end October.
