Metra runs extra HC service after stalled freight cleared from tracks

A freight train stalled near Union Station June 26,2019 has stopped Heritage Corridor service

Metra is operating additional inbound Heritage Corridor trains Wednesday to accommodate riders affected after a stalled freight train disrupted service during the morning commute.

The stalled freight train near 16th and Canal streets caused Heritage Corridor trains to reverse back to Joliet starting at about 6:50 a.m., according to a Metra spokeswoman.

The reversing trains picked up passengers on the way to Joliet, who were advised to take Rock Island District trains as an alternate route, Metra officials said.

The tracks were cleared by 8 a.m. and three additional inbound Heritage Corridor trains will run for riders who did not choose to take Rock Island trains, Metra said.

Another broken-down freight train caused delays of up to 107 minutes for Heritage Corridor trains during Monday’s morning commute.

Metra Alert HC - Train #918 departing Joliet at 7:05 AM - will not operate, earlier stalled freight train. Extra inbound trains departing Joliet at 8:00a.m. will accommodate commuters.
