Inbetweeners stars share first look at 'Fwends' reunion show

The stars of The Inbetweeners have shared a first look at the anticipated Fwends Reunited special episode, which marks ten years since the much-loved comedy first aired on E4.

The new image shows Joe Thomas (Simon), Simon Bird (Will), Blake Harrison (Neil) and James Buckley (Jay) posing in front of their characters’ secondary school, with the infamous yellow Fiat car – complete with one red door – in the background.

Sharing the promo shot on Twitter, Harrison joked about how he and his co-stars have changed in the last decade, captioning his post with “Father Time waits for no one” and adding a grey-haired emoji.

His co-star Buckley also revealed why he was sporting some unusual facial hair in the snap, explaining to his followers that he was shooting BBC drama White Gold while filming the reunion episode. “Can I just say I was shooting White Gold,” he wrote. “I’ve not just decided to have a moustache.”

Earlier this month, Buckley shared two photos from the reunion set on Instagram, showing the four stars back in Jay’s Fiat.

The E4 sitcom ran for three series from 2008 until 2010, and followed awkward newcomer Will as he attempted to navigate teenage life at Rudge Park Comprehensive, with the help of his three hapless best friends. It went on to win a TV BAFTA and inspired two spin-off films, set in Malia, Crete and in Australia.

The one-off programme will air on New Year's Day, and promises to relive the funniest moments from the TV series and films in an awards-ceremony format. Viewers can also expect behind the scenes clips, unseen footage and some surprise guests.

Discussing the reunion, Buckley said the cast are "like family," and will use "any excuse" to get back together. "That's why we're doing the show - it's just an excuse to meet up," he added.

Throwback: The cast of the show back in the day

Co-executive producer Will Macdonald said: "The love for The Inbetweeners is huge, the kind of love that Jay would boast he’s had many times – big celebrities, millions of viewers and loving fans from across the globe.

"And it’s so exciting the boys will be back together to feel that love from all those people and enjoy it first-hand. What could possibly go wrong?”

The Inbetweeners: Fwends Reunited will air on Channel 4, January 1 at 9pm
