Inbetweeners' James Buckley 'becomes first UK celeb to make $1million from Cameo videos'

The Inbetweeners star James Buckley has been named as the first UK celebrity to make a million on personalised video platform Cameo, after joining just a few years ago.

The actor, 35 - best known for playing Jay Cartwright in the E4 sitcom - signed up for the celebrity video platform in 2020 and has proved particularly popular on it since then.

He currently charges £41 for his personalised videos - which have an average length of 42 seconds - and he reportedly hasn't ever charged customers more than £57 for them.

James takes requests from fans for birthdays and other occasions, with the actor offering to say catchphrases from the Inbetweeners like "busw*nker" in videos.

According to the Independent, James has now become the first non-US celebrity to earn $1 million (£930,000) from videos on the platform since joining a few years ago.

Cameo co-founder Martin Blencowe has said that the actor - who also runs a YouTube channel with his wife Clair Buckley - had been "incredibly popular from the start".

"He's stayed committed to his fans, always keeping an accessible price - even during his busiest periods - and giving his all to make each Cameo special," the co-founder added.

He's best known for his role in The Inbetweeners franchise alongside Blake Harrison, Joe Thomas and Simon Bird (Channel 4)

Martin said that in return James has gained the "financial freedom" and "overwhelming fan support" to be able to pursue the projects that he is "most passionate about."

The West End play 2:22 A Ghost Story - which he appeared in earlier this year - and his family's YouTube channel At Home With The Buckleys were given as examples.

James rose to fame playing Jay in The Inbetweeners, which initially ran as a TV sitcom on E4 from 2008 until 2010. A film follow-up was released in 2011, with a sequel then in 2014.

He played Del Boy in the Only Fools and Horses prequel series Rock & Chips from 2010 to 2011 and has more recently starred as Brian Fitzpatrick in the sitcom White Gold.

The Mirror approached James' rep and Cameo for comment.
