Disney has revealed that the most controversial film in studio's history is not suitable to appear on its streaming service, even with a disclaimer.
The 1946 film Song of the South's depiction of its African American characters, as well as its usage of slang, has long been considered racist and offensive leaving many to wonder whether it would appear on Disney+.
Executive chairman Bob Iger has now confirmed that this will never be the case and that Song of the South would not even be added with an “outdated cultural depictions” disclaimer at the start of the film.
Another Disney film to feature racist stereotypes is Dumbo, which is currently available to view on the service with the disclaimer.
Song of the South, a merging of live-action and animation, is set on a plantation after the Civil War.
Despite its controversy, the film won Best Original Song at the Oscars for “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah”.
