Careerstructure.com has reported the £190m contract to upgrade parts of the route between Banbury and London Marylebone and Bicester Town and Oxford will create new jobs in civil engineering between now and 2013.
The government is hoping to improve the salary prospects of one million UK citizens over the next three years by launching a free online IT training scheme. According to itproportal.com, the initiative was launched following government research last year that found almost 11.3 million Britons were IT illiterate. The Online Basics scheme will contain five modules covering typing, mouse skills, email use and internet browsing and was unveiled by business secretary Lord Peter Mandelson.
A new training scheme in Pontefract aiming to help young people find long-term employment in the construction industry will start this month, reports Community Newswire. From January 26, free health and safety training leading to a national qualification, CV workshops and advice on interview techniques will be available in the area thanks to funding from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and West Yorkshire-based organisation Re'new. Staff will also be able to refer young people to other courses and help them raise money for specialised qualifications.
The insurance company Fortis has announced the start of a new recruitment drive to take on 550 new employees, according to insurancedaily.co.uk. The roles, which will be created in the Gloucester, Eastleigh and Stoke regions, will range across underwriting, administration, HR, team leaders and claim specialists. A new three-storey extension is planned for the firm's Gloucester office to house the new recruits.
