Regarding the ruling on Lord Janner (Report, 16 April) and his condition, would the same ruling apply to Jimmy Savile if he were still alive and suffering from Alzheimer’s disease?

• I’m puzzled by the need for clarification of Caligula’s temporal relationship to the Colosseum. Surely comparing Simon Cowell to a corpse of 40+ years’ standing on a dull day remains more flattering than comparison with such a corpse on a sunny day (Corrections, 17 April)?

• I don’t know about going to Blackpool for the hallucinations (Letters, 17 April) but, before improving their beaches recently, the old joke was: “Can you swim in the sea here?”; “No, but you can go through the motions”.
