Since 1989, Issey Miyake has been setting the tone when it comes to pleats -- still unfolding are the series Stretch and A-POC (an acronym for a A Piece of Cloth) along with other pleated innovations for comfy, compact and functional apparel.

From the "me" autumn/winter 2018 collection, the latest clothing and bags are now playfully displayed -- as if they escaped from a large-scale tablet booklet to the outside world for people to discover them at a pop-up store -- on Siam Discovery's G Floor till Monday.

The Japanese fashion house introduced the "me Issey Miyake" brand in 2001, initially to provide 21st century T-shirts made from multi-directional elastic stretch pleats and innovative materials.
New designs revolve around striking contrasts and the juxtaposition of light and shade.
Stretch Pleats T-shirts, for instance, feature primitive stripes with fine vertical and horizontal pleats expanding in two directions.
The Stretch Pleats series also includes patterns inspired by shades of a basket or an image of flying into clouds or smoke whereas Star Edge Pleats dresses boast a more complex pattern towards the hem.
In seasonal colours, the soft and light A-POC Pleats T-shirts, fringe tops and dresses are created from a single piece of thread in a single process by using computer technology and a machine that can knit cylindrically.
The brand's signature multiple folds extend to accessories such as Triangle and Swing pleats bags, the latter's printed stripes transforming into different patterns when spread out.
Issey Miyake's designs are not only about crazy creases though, as the smooth-textured Solid Knit series of clothing and Solid Bags have also broken out of the catalogue, following the pop-up store's "Real Tablet" concept.
