PANCHKULA: Due to the ongoing examination in schools, only 60 beneficiaries came for getting the first dose of Corbevax vaccination for 12-14 years of age group started in Panchkula from Wednesday. The vaccination was launched by Haryana governor Bandaru Dattatreya along with additional chief secretary, home and health department Rajeev Arora at PHC (primary health centre) Kot.
According to Dr Meenu Sassan, district immunisation officer, a target of 25,000 beneficiaries under 12-14 age group has been set in the Panchkula district. The department has received a stock of 10,000 doses of Corbevax to cater to the beneficiaries, she added.
Parents association members said people do not want to vaccinate their children during examination, as it can lead to fever and other side effects for three to four days.
According to sources, the other reason for poor showing could be that the age group of 12-14 years is dependent on parents to reach the vaccination centre. Weekend, they add, is expected to be more busy by the health department.
Haryana governor during the launch congratulated doctors, paramedical staff, asha and other workers for their hard work in tackling Covid. He also said 4.14 crore doses of vaccination have been given to the beneficiaries in Haryana so far. Governor also gave commendation certificates to asha workers and nursing staff who did exemplary work in their fields during Covid peak time.
ACS Rajeev Arora said the second dose will be given after 28 days of the first dose. The vaccination will help students go to schools for the new semester without any worry, said the ACS.
