Strathaven celebrated the town’s 2019 Gala Day last weekend as thousands lined the streets for the parade and crowning of this year’s Gala Queen.
Emojis, aliens and an assortment of brides were just some of the colourful characters leading the car carrying Queen Nicola and her champion Jamie Thomson to the crowning ceremony in Strathaven Park.
Despite a grim weather forecast the Gala Day enjoyed clear skies and over 1000 participants took part in the colourful parade.
The Gala Day was the culmination of a hugely successful Gala week, including well over 1000 ducks making their way down the river in the park on Monday for the duck race, and a good entry of juniors and seniors for the Crags Race on Wednesday.
Gala chairman Colin Dempster said: “Gala Week goes from strength to strength and has had the benefit of new volunteers.
“My thanks to everyone who invested the time and effort to make the week so special.
“The floats, bands and walking pageants were outstanding and I am so proud that this small community will pull out all the stops to make it memorable.
“Queen Nicola and Champion Jamie had a ball and the children of the Court were fantastic.
“We’ll not let the short shower spoil our Gala Day. We’re already looking forward to Gala 2020.”
