In Pictures: Merseyside celebrates World Book Day

Youngsters across Merseyside have been busy celebrating World Book Day today by dressing up as their favourite fictional characters.

World Book Day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide day devoted to books and reading, and is marked in more than 100 countries.

As part of the initiative, children are given a £1 book token to spend on a special World Book Day book of their choice.

Across the region, pupils and school staff alike have been donning their best costumes and sending us their snaps.

There have been princesses, fantastic foxes and even the odd Oompa Loompa.

If you want to share your World Book Day photos with us, tweet them @LivEchonews with the hashtag #WorldBookDay or email them to liverpoolcommunities@gmail.com
