In pictures: Knowle West Lantern Parade makes return after decades of absence

A lantern parade lit up Knowle West this evening (November 1) for the first time in a generation.

The Knowle West Lantern Parade used to be a much-loved community event during the 1980s.

But tonight it made a triumphant return as revellers proceeded along Filwood Broadway.

Bristol Live spoke to organiser Chavez Moulton earlier this week, when the Filwood Community Centre communications assistant was eagerly anticipating the reprise.

Mr Moulton said: "The lantern parade is the first of its kind to take place in the area since the iconic Knowle West lantern parades of the 1980s.

“Events like this shine a light on Knowle West and all the great stuff going on here.”

He added: “It’s going to bring people together and be a fun time for everyone involved.

“It’s also an opportunity for people to get involved in the community and to express their creativity.”

A Hollywood-style sign, reading ‘Filwood’, was created for the parade to welcome everyone passing the busy Airport Road at the entrance to the area.
