In pictures: Farmers march on Delhi

For the second day today, thousands of farmers marched on Delhi to protest against the new farm laws brought by the Narendra Modi regime which they say favour private corporations over their interests.

They had to brave teargas, water cannons and lathis of the Haryana police before they were permitted to enter the national capital and hold peaceful protests at Nirankari Ground in the city’s northwest.

To prevent the farmers from reaching Delhi, the police in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh blockaded the highways with buses, trucks, shipping containers, and even dug out trenches.

Several farmer leaders have been detained over the past two days, and a farmer, 40 years old, was killed after his lorry collided with a truck on the highway in Haryana.

Here are a few snapshots from the "Delhi Chalo" march, and the police’s crackdown on the farmers at Singhu border between Haryana and Delhi.
