In pictures: Edinburgh LGBT campaigners protest at Polish consulate over country's new president

Campaigners for LGBT rights in Edinburgh are holding protests at the Polish consulate over the newly elected president who has been accused of homophobia.

President Andrzej Duda said "gay ideology" was "worse than communism" during his re-election bid when he pledged to defend children from LGBT people and the principle of the family.

LGBT campaigners in the country have called for support from around the world as they protest the new president.

Left wing politicians in the country went viral after they wore rainbow colours to troll President Andrzej Duda over his attitudes to LGBT people in the country.

Protestors will take to the consulate in Edinburgh again today (13 August) after a similar protest last week (10 August).

In a Facebook event the organisers wrote that the Polish government attacks of LGBT people "openly promote homophobia and transphobia" and "encourages violence against LGBT+ people".

"In last days Polish police arrested a group of activists who protested against months of anti-LGBT+ hate campaign carried by the Polish government and by the Catholic Church.

"Many of them were repeatedly arrested, police unlawfully entered their flats, unmarked police cars hijacked them from streets.
