IN PICTURES: 'Dedicated' activists praised after independence demo at BBC HQ

PRAISE has been given to the “dedicated” Scottish independence activists who turned out in poor weather to demonstrate outside BBC Scotland’s headquarters.

Protesters joined a march organised by All Under One Banner (AUOB) in Glasgow on Saturday to call for an “end to Westminster rule”.

It came three days after the Supreme Court ruled that the Scottish parliament could not hold an independence referendum without consent from the UK Government.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said on Friday that the ruling had “galvanised” the Yes movement.

The SNP leader told her party’s annual St Andrew’s Day dinner that thousands had taken to the streets because the “myth” that the UK is a voluntary Union was “shattered”.

Echoing the rhetoric on Saturday, a spokesperson from AUOB praised the activists who had marched to the BBC Scotland building at Pacific Quay.

They said: “Well done to the dedicated activists who marched to Pacific Quay and rallied outside the BBC, stating loud and clear that we will continue to march and demonstrate until Scotland is free.

“The movement is galvanised – now is the time to work together and up the ante.”

The march set off from McLellan Arch, the main entrance to Glasgow Green at the Saltmarket, at 12.30pm.

The National's photographer was on hand to snap some shots of the demonstration:
