Cristiano Ronaldo returned to training with Manchester United first-team squad on Tuesday.

Banished from the squad who drew with Chelsea on Saturday following his refusal to come on as a substitute against Tottenham last week, the 37-year-old has held crunch talks with Erik ten Hag.

Limited to only two Premier League starts this season, the Portugal captain is understood to still want to leave the club, having failed to secure a move away over the course of the summer.

Finding a buyer, however, could prove difficult. Approaching 40 and on a massive salary, it has been reported that no Champions League-level offers were forthcoming.

United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea did consider for the former Real Madrid and Juventus star but shelved their interest before signing Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

United host Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League on Thursday night and Ronaldo could feature for the first time since his public breach of discipline.
