In pictures: bushfire smoke haze blankets Canberra

Canberrans experienced the increasingly familiar sight and smell of thick smoke haze which rolled into the city on Tuesday night.

By 8am Wednesday morning, all air quality stations across Canberra were recording hazardous levels of smoke.

Health authorities have issued warnings to limit exposure to the poor air by staying indoors and avoiding vigorous activity while outside.

The smoke from bushfires in NSW is expected to linger in the capital until at least Saturday.

The haze comes as Canberrans are bracing for a heatwave and potentially the hottest day since records began.

The Canberra Times photographers captured the eerie scenes around the city on Tuesday night. Have you taken a photo of the haze? Share your pictures with us at online@canberratimes.com.au
