In pictures: Bristol sizzles as hot weather sweeps the UK

Ice creams all round, a cold beverage or two, or taking the time to enjoy the waterfront breeze - when it comes to escaping the record-breaking temperatures across the UK, Bristolians are doing just about anything to cool down.

Meteorologists believe that UK temperature records could be broken, with the mercury potentially rising to 39C is southern and eastern parks of England.

Although temperatures won't be quite as high here in the West Country, with an expected peak of 31C, Bristolians have turned out in force to make the most of the summer weather.

The city's parks and waterfront areas have been packed all day with families and city workers alike finding ways to keep cool, with residents pictured sunning themselves at the Harbourside or enjoying a spot of yoga in the park.

Meanwhile, the hot weather has caused a number of issues across the city - with a huge water main bursting in East Bristol leaving several areas of the city completely without running water, and train services have also been heavily revised in order to allow the railway system to cope with the extreme heat.
