As the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues spreading into the country, the Centre as well as State governments are taking stringent measures, including a 21-day lockdown, to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country. The number of COVID-19 positive cases in India exceeded 3,200 and the death toll touched over 95 on April 4, according to State and Health Ministry reports. More than 1,200 of the slum areas are inaccessible for vehicles carrying out disinfection operations, in addition to over 400 market areas. The Kerala government would begin free distribution of these kits to 87 lakh families in the State by the first week of April. The Civil Supplies authorities said that the kits, worth ₹1,000 each, would be distributed in a phased manner in April. Currently, the plan is to distribute the kits, with 16 items, via ration shops. Plans are also on to make home deliveries with the help of volunteers. As per preliminary estimates, this is expected to cost ₹800 crore to the State exchequer. The District COVID-19 Prevention Cell has taken immediate action following instructions from the Union government after Telangana had reported the death of six persons who attended the congregation.
