Hurricane Harvey has menaced the Texas coast with rain and heavy winds in what has been described as the fiercest storm to hit the United States in more than 10 years.
Thousands of people fled as the category four hurricane approached, while those who remained behind stocked up on food and water and put their final preparations into place as the storm loomed off the coast.
